We are in essence an agile Strategy, Product and HR consulting firm located in Brisbane Australia, embracing lean efficiency practices. Managing Director, Shawn Ket is an experienced business leader having held the position of CEO and General Manager in various firms over a period of 20 years and has a decade of focused business and HR consulting and advisory experience. Our Firm has experience spanning industry sectors including resources, manufacturing, retail, finance, government and government owned entities.

Apparent wind is a simple concept that nevertheless continues to mystify many people, even those who have been sailing for years. It is the combination of two winds: the one generated by the boat moving through the air and the actual wind produced by nature — the true wind. Thus, it is the wind direction and speed that you actually feel on the boat. We often get the comment from people on their first time out, “You said the wind was coming from 90 degrees on the beam, but the wind indicator shows that we’re sailing almost directly into the wind.” Forward momentum brings the (true) wind around from “the side” to “the front” (apparent). Interesting?

We choose the metaphor of Apparent Wind as it applies equally to business. It is often the case that as a business accelerates, it encounters demanding and perhaps unexpected headwinds. With forward momentum, apparent direction and velocity can and do change so, as a business accelerates, correction must be applied to the course (strategy) and trim (operational, marketing, and people approaches) to adjust to these new and impacting changes in speed and direction.

As a business accelerates, leaders must continually adjust their business course and trim to optimise performance. We support business and leaders to contemplate and implement such adjustments.
